Does God allow those who believe in Him
to deal with demons?
God’s purpose in establishing the Israelite nation was to give a model of a nation that worships Him, to expose the pagan gods as false and nullify them, and to be glorified Himself. But they left the Lord, the true God, and worshiped idols, so He struck them and scattered them throughout all the lands of the world, and He had warned them in the Torah as follows:
Leviticus 19: 31 Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.
Deuteronomy 18: 9-13 “When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to do according to the abominations of those nations.10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices divination, or a soothsayer or an omen-reader, or a sorcerer ,11 or one who casts spells, or who consults a medium or a spiritist, or one who inquires of the dead.12 For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you.13 You shall be blameless before the Lord your God.14 For these nations which you dispossess listen to soothsayers and diviners. But as for you, the Lord your God has not permitted you to do so.”
King Saul violated the law, so God judged him and brought his reign to an end, as it is written:
1 Chronicles 10: 13 So Saul died for hisunfaithfulness which he had committed against the Lord, because of the word of the Lord which he did not keep, and also because he sought guidance from a medium to inquire.14 But he did not inquire of the Lord; therefore He killed him and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.
And in the Gospel, God reveals the traits, works, and end of Satan as follows:
Gospel of John 14: 30 I will not speak with you much longer, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.
1 Thessalonians 3: 5 For this reason, when I could no longer endure it, I sent to know your faith, lest the tempter had tempted you, and our labor might become in vain.
2 Peter 5: 8 Be sober and watchful. For Satanyour adversary, like a roaring lion, , walks about seeking someone to devour.
Gospel of John 8: 44 You are of a father who is Iblis, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer of people from the beginning, and he did not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own, because he is a liar and the father of lies.
Revelation 12: 9-10 So the great dragon, the ancient serpent, who is called Iblis and Satan, who deceives the whole world, was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven: “Now the salvation, the power, the kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been cast down, who accused them before our God day and night.”
Revelation 20: 10 And devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
2 Corinthians 11: 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself transforms himself into a likeness of an angel of light!15 Therefore it is no great thing if his servants also transform themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.
And Christ had authority over demons to cast them out of people, and He gave authority over them to those who believe in Him to cast them out of people and to resist them, as in:
Mark 1: 23 There was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out,24 saying, “Ah! What have we to do with You, Jesus the Nazarene? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are: the Holy One of God!”25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!”26 The unclean spirit threw him into convulsions and cried out with a loud voice and came out of him.27 They were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What new teaching is this? For He commands with authority even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him!”
Luke 9: 1 He called His twelve disciples and gave them power and authority over all demons and to heal diseases, 2 and He sent them to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
Luke 10: 1 After that the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go……17 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name!”18 He said to them, “I saw Satan falling like lightning from heaven.19 Behold, I give you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice that your names are written in heaven”.
Ephesians 6: 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand against the schemes of Iblis. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
As for in Islam we find that there is a complete surah in the Qur'an, namely Surah al-Jinn (72), and the Prophet (peace be upon him) also had interaction with the jinn, and one of the Jews cast a spell on him, and he also practiced ruqyah as follows:
1- "Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us; 'Abd al-A'la from Dawud from 'Amir said: I asked Alqama, Did Ibn Mas'ud witness with the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, the night of the jinn? He said: Alqama said, I asked Ibn Mas'ud and said, Did any of you witness with the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, the night of the jinn? He said: No, but we were with the Messenger of God one night and we missed him. We searched for him in the valleys and mountain passes and said, He has been carried off or murdered. We spent the worst night any people ever spent. When morning came, he came from the direction of Hara. We said, O Messenger of God, we missed you and looked for you but did not find you, and we spent the worst night any people ever spent. He said: A caller from the jinn came to me, so I went with him and I recited the Qur'an to them. Then he went with us and showed us their traces and the traces of their fires. They asked him for provisions, so he said: You will have every bone over which the name of God has been mentioned; it will come into your hands with more meat than ever. And every droppings is fodder for your animals. The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: So do not use bones or droppings for cleansing, for they are the food of your brothers."
2- Ibn Mas'ud said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: (I was commanded to recite the Qur'an to the jinn. Who will go with me? They were silent, then he said it a second time and they were silent, then he said it a third time. Abdullah said: I said, I will go with you, O Messenger of God. He said: Set out, and when he reached al-Hajjun at Shi'b Ibn Abi Dub, he drew a line for me and said: Do not cross it. Then he went on to al-Hajjun, and they came down upon him like partridges, as if they were men of al-Zutt, beating their drums as women beat their drums, until they surrounded him and he disappeared from my sight. I stood up, and he gestured to me with his hand to sit. Then he recited the Qur'an, and his voice kept rising, and they clung to the ground until I began to hear their voices but could not see them. Ibn Mas'ud said: When he returned to me, he said: Did you want to come to me? I said: Yes, O Messenger of God. He said: That was not permitted for you. Those jinn came to listen to the Qur'an, then they turned back to their people as warners, and they asked me for provisions, so I supplied them with bones and droppings. Therefore, let no one use a bone or droppings for cleansing.)
In an authenticated narration:
'Urwa ibn al-Zubayr narrated from Aisha, the wife of the Prophet, peace be upon him, that she told him: The Messenger of God, peace be upon him, went out from me at night. She said: I became jealous. He came and saw what I was doing and said: What is the matter with you, Aisha? Are you jealous? She said: I said, And why should someone like me not be jealous over someone like you? The Messenger of God, peace be upon him, said: Have your devil seized you? She said: O Messenger of God, do I have a devil? He said: Yes. I said: And does every person have one?He said: Yes. I said: And you too, O Messenger of God? He said: Yes, but my Lord helped me against him until he submitted, so he only commands me to do good. [Narrated by Ahmad 6/115 and Muslim 2815]
Is there a Muslim devil who fasts, prays, and performs Hajj? And does the devil command the Prophet to do good? And are there
The Prophet's bewitchment:
The hadith of the Prophet's bewitchment, peace be upon him, is authentic, and it was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim, and it was received by Ahl al-Sunnah with acceptance and approval; only the innovators rejected it. The text of the hadith is as follows:
From Aisha, may God be pleased with her, who said: (The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was bewitched until it was made to seem to him that he was doing something when he was not doing it. One day he supplicated and supplicated, then said: Do you know that God has made me aware of what contains my cure? Two men came to me, and one of them sat at my head and the other at my feet. One of them said to the other: What is the man's ailment? He said: He is bewitched. He said: And who bewitched him? He said: Labid ibn al-A'sam. He said: With what? He said: With a comb, hair from combing, and the spathe of a male date palm. He said: Where is it? He said: In the well of Dharwan. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, went out to it, then returned and said to Aisha when he came back: Its palms were like the heads of devils. I said: Did you take it out? He said: No, as for me, God has healed me, and I feared that stirring it up would bring evil upon the people. Then the well was filled in.) Narrated by al-Bukhari (3268) and Muslim (2189).
(Matbub): bewitched. (Musht): a hair comb. (Mushaqa) or (Mushata): what falls from the hair.
So how does this hadith accord with what is in Surah al-Nahl {99} Indeed, he has no authority over those who believe and rely upon their Lord. {100} Indeed, his authority is only over those who take him as an ally and those who through him associate others with God.
And in Surah al-Isra: Indeed, My servants—you have no authority over them; and sufficient is your Lord as Disposer of affairs (65)
Prophet practiced ruqyah:
The Prophet practiced ruqyah as narrated from the Prophet's wife Aisha, who said: When the Prophet, peace be upon him, was ill, Jibril, peace be upon him, would perform ruqyah for him and say: In the name of God I perform ruqyah for you from every illness; may He heal you from the evil of an envier when he envies, and from the evil of every possessor of the evil eye. And the Prophet would do likewise for those who were in pain.
If you go to the internet and search for ruqyah among Muslims and its practice, you will find many people practicing it, even though God had already warned against that in the Torah. So does God change His principles like that? He is the One who does not change, and His word will not pass away.
Dear reader, you are completely free in what you believe and choose, for you will give an account before God for yourself on the last day.
